Reverse Osmosis vs Water Injection Treatment: What are the Differences?

The fact of the matter is that, in life, there are some things that we just have to deal with. The existence of hard minerals in water is one of these things.

Fortunately, there are a number of purification systems on the market which serve to remove these minerals, making water as pure and drinkable as possible.

Perhaps you’re looking to install one of these systems in your home so that you can reap the benefits of soft water? Maybe you’re questioning which type of system would work best for you? Let’s compare them so that you can make an educated decision.

Reverse Osmosis System vs Water Injection Treatment

Taste

When it comes to taste, there is quite a bit of difference between a reverse osmosis system and a water injection treatment system.

Reverse osmosis systems operate in such a way that they remove almost all of the contaminants from a water supply. Because they do this, they essentially filter water to its purest form. This produces a water with no supplemental flavors; just pure, straight drinking water.

Chlorine and hydrogen peroxide injection systems, on the other hand, operate by adding chemicals to your water. While these chemicals kill the impurities in your water, they themselves remain. Because of this, they produce a water with a slight, but sometimes noticeable chemical taste.

Efficiency

Efficiency is a bit of a complex subject as it pertains to reverse osmosis and water injection treatment systems. Though reverse osmosis is cheaper overall, injection systems are a little more consistent in their efficiency.

Reverse osmosis systems use very little electricity, utilizing a membrane to filter out minerals. Unfortunately, they don’t always operate fast enough to filter as much water as you need in a given moment.

Injection systems require a little more electricity, but are certain to keep up with your water needs. You’ll never have to wait for pure water when making use of an injection system.

Water Quality

While both reverse osmosis systems and water injection treatment systems produce very high-quality water, the types of water that they produce are a little different.

Reverse osmosis systems purify water more-so than any other type of water system. They filter out not only minerals such as manganese and iron, but calcium and magnesium as well. This is seen as a negative for some consumers, as calcium and magnesium are vital to the functioning of the body.

Injection treatment systems operate by neutralizing bacteria in the water supply. Because they inject chemicals such as chlorine and hydrogen peroxide into the water, the water they produce does carry a chemical taste. Nonetheless, these systems do a perfectly suitable job of eliminating hard water minerals.

Size

The last thing we’ll discuss is the size of these systems. Depending on where you live, your water system’s overall size can have repercussions on your ability to store items and move around with ease.

Reverse osmosis systems come in all different sizes. The larger they are, they more water they can successfully filter. Whereas some of these systems can fit under your kitchen sink, others can take up half a basement.

Injection treatment systems are a decent size, but don’t take up a great deal of room in general. You can typically tuck them away into the corner of your basement.
